One robot tenses its fist and explodes, and then a choral stretch from their 2013 song “Touch” plays: “If love is the answer / You’re home / Hold on.” The video was melodramatic and a bit silly. The robots stare at one another, raising their heads in a way that pantomimes human affection. They did so in a fashion familiar to their fans: a stylized video of the two of them, wearing their leather jackets and customary robot helmets, parting ways in the desert. Earlier this week, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, otherwise known as the French electronic duo Daft Punk, announced that they were disbanding after twenty-eight years of releasing music together.
